Is Going Through the Fire Worth It?

My doubts

When I go through a trial, or “the fire”, sometimes the heat and pressure of what I’m going through makes me want to give up on my walk with God.

From time to time, I ask myself, “Is serving and walking with God worth all of this pain and suffering?” I’m sure there is someone reading this devotion that can relate to this feeling.

When I’m feeling down, I’m then reminded of a story in the Bible of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego which is a perfect example of why it is worth going through the fire. The story shows spiritual benefits that happen when we allow ourselves to go through the fire.

God is in the fire with you

There are three spiritual benefits to growing through the fire. The first one, is that Jesus is in the midst. This is true because he loves and cares for us so much that he is willing to go through the fire with us.

“Then King Nebuchadnezzar leaped to his feet in amazement and asked his advisers, “Weren’t there three men that we tied up and threw into the fire?” They replied, “Certainly, Your Majesty.” He said, “Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods.” (Daniel 3:24-25)

Hebrew 13:5 (KJV) put is it like this, “he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” We don’t have to worry about how hot the fire gets because Jesus, our Heavenly Father, is with us! Hebrews 13:8 tells us that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. If He was with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego back then, He for sure is with you now!

What binds you is destroyed

The second spiritual benefit is that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego’s bondages were destroyed. When we go through the fire, whatever has us bound is destroyed and we are loosed from it. Jesus wants us to be free from the things that binds us, whether it be: drug addiction, porn addiction, alcohol addiction, depression, oppression, our past, etc.; whatever it is, going through the fire destroys it!

A promotion is coming

The last and third spiritual benefit was that these three men were blessed with a promotion in Daniel 3:30 “Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, in the province of Babylon.”

See, when we go through the fire it leads to the blessing that Jesus has for us. Going through the fire prepares us to receive those blessings.

Is it worth going through the fire? YES! Instead of having fear, rejoice! For your blessing is coming if you stay strong in the Lord.
